Indian Miniature Inspired

I’ve been obsessed with this collection of paintings from Royal Udaipur that came through the National Museum of Asian art here in DC. I could talk forever about this work and its genius but what I haven’t been able to get out of my head has been the images of animals, people and celebrations. Here are a few studies that have come from that collection.

The wrestlers are stills from a fight staged to entertain Maharana Sangram Singh II at the City palace in Udaipur in ~1715

The paintings on leather bags, also sewn by me are inspired by animals across the collection.

The crocodiles were inspired by several depictions of royals feeding the animals for entertainment.
